Brief History Of Fijai Senior High School

About

Fijai Senior High School was established in 1952, as part of the 1951 Accelerated Plan for Education to provide quality education to brilliant students who could not afford the boarding schools in Cape Coast.

The school was commissioned by the paramount chief of Essikado, Nana Kobina Nketiah IV on the 29th of January 1952 with 38 students: 32 boys and 6 girls.

The first headmaster was appointed from Mfantsipim School, Cape Coast. Classes were conducted in the buildings of Sekondi Old Hospital. The school was initially named Sekondi Day Secondary School.

In 1955, the school was moved to Fijai and named Fijai Secondary School and now Fijai Senior High School. The school is located at Fijai, a suburb of Sekondi. The school shares boundary on the North with Holy Child College of Education. On the South, the school shares boundary with Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital. On the East, the school shares boundary with the Kweikuma Community. On the West, the school shares boundary with Ghana National Fire Service and the Centre for National Culture.

School Anthem

1. We started young in earnest
In search of knowledge pure and true
And at our motherland's behest
To give our country of our best
And so we are daily struggling through
Ad astra (3x) per adua
To the stars, to the stars, to the stars
Through thick and thin.

2. We've suffered much privation
But God is surely on our side
His rod and staff have led us on
And strengthened us on task to shun
With him we'll quicken still our stride.
Ad astra (3x) per adua
To the stars, to the stars, to the stars
Through thick and thin.

3. Nor will we rest nor wander
Our vain and selfish laurels seek
But honesty ourselves bestir
Full service to your land prefer
And so we’ll fly however weak
Ad astra (3x) per adua
To the stars, to the stars, to the stars
Through thick and thin.

School Hymn

1. Young souls so strong the race to run,
And win each height sublime,
Unwary still would ye march on,
And still exulting climb?

2. Walk with the Lord along the road,
Your strength He will renew.
Wait on the everlasting God,
And He will wait on you.

3. Aspiring eyes ye still shall
Raise, and heights sublime
Explore, like eagles ye shall
Heavenward soar.

4. Your wondrous portion shall be this,
Your life below, above,
Eternal youth, eternal bliss,
And everlasting love.

Headmaster's Message

At Fijai Senior High School, my vision is to elevate the institution into one of the premier senior high schools in Ghana and beyond, excelling in academics, discipline, sports, and other spheres of endeavor. Currently, I take immense pride in affirming that Fijai Senior High School is the leading mixed school in the Western and Western North Regions of Ghana.

Central to realizing this vision is fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders: current students, alumni, and parents. Among these, our past students hold a special place. They are our most valuable ambassadors, embodying the legacy and excellence of Fijai Senior High School. Their achievements not only validate the quality of education we provide but also inspire our current students to aim higher in their academic pursuits.

Equally, my connection with our current students is vital. Their success is a reflection of my own. When they thrive academically, socially, and personally, it signifies a shared victory. Conversely, their challenges are opportunities for me to grow and support them better.

Parents, too, play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our students. Their involvement and provision of essential resources directly influence their wards’ academic performance and overall attitude towards learning. A collaborative relationship with parents creates a strong foundation for students to excel.

I urge all stakeholders to unite in making Fijai Senior High School the preferred institution for holistic education and excellence. Together, we can achieve remarkable milestones for our school.
