Project Title

FOSA 2005 20th Anniversary Legacy Project – Construction of Multipurpose Sports Complex for Fijai Senior High School

Project Overview

The FOSA 2005 Year Group, an active alumni body of Fijai Senior High School, is embarking on a landmark legacy project to commemorate 20 years since graduating from the school. The initiative aims to construct a state-of-the-art Multipurpose Sports Complex at Fijai Senior High School in Sekondi-Takoradi. The facility will serve as a hub for basketball, volleyball, and handball activities and will benefit not only the over 1,000 students of Fijai SHS but also the larger Sekondi-Takoradi community.

The project underscores FOSA 2005's commitment to youth development, community engagement, and the promotion of sports as a tool for discipline, teamwork, and leadership. It represents a lasting legacy that will enhance the school's sporting infrastructure and create a positive social impact across the Western Region.

Background

Fijai Senior High School has long been recognized for academic excellence and sporting achievements. However, the lack of modern facilities has limited the school's potential in sports development. The existing basketball and volleyball courts are deteriorated, undersized, and lack fencing and seating, posing safety and usability challenges.

To address these limitations, the FOSA 2005 Year Group adopted the construction of a modern multipurpose court as its Vicennial Anniversary Project. The new facility will be designed to FIBA and FIVB standards, featuring durable flooring, fencing, proper markings, lighting, and seating areas. It will also include space for community activities and inter-school tournaments, positioning Fijai SHS as a leader in sports development in Ghana.

Project Objectives

  • 1. Improve Sports Infrastructure: Develop a modern, multipurpose sports complex that meets international standards for basketball, volleyball, and handball.
  • 2. Enhance Student Participation: Encourage students to engage in sports for improved health, teamwork, and leadership skills.
  • 3. Foster Community Engagement: Provide a venue for community tournaments, youth development programs, and recreational activities.
  • 4. Build a Lasting Legacy: Mark the 20th anniversary of FOSA 2005 with a project that positively impacts generations to come.

Scope of Work

The project will be implemented in four major phases:

  • Phase 1: Multipurpose Court Construction
Construction of the main basketball/volleyball court with flooring, fencing, and drainage systems.
Timeline: September – November 2025 (60% of funds already mobilized)
  • Phase 2: Handball Court Construction
Construction of a dedicated handball court adjacent to the multipurpose court.
  • Phase 3: Volleyball Court Construction
Addition of a dedicated volleyball court, allowing the main multipurpose court to focus on basketball.
  • Phase 4: Indoor Sports Complex Construction
Transformation of the outdoor facility into a covered indoor complex with seating capacity for 1,000–3,000 spectators.

Total project duration: Approximately 18 months.
